Our Formative Years

Founded in 1998 by Phil Everly in Los Angeles, California, Cleartone Strings was built on a simple mission shaped by decades on the road and in the studio: create guitar strings that don't break easily, stay in tune, and deliver consistent, reliable tone night after night.

To achieve that, we developed what we call Super High Tension Winding—our proprietary string winding process. We custom-built our winding machines to our own specifications, applying precise, controlled tension throughout the winding process to create the densest, most consistent wrap possible. The result is a string with greater resonance, enhanced sustain, improved tuning stability, longer life, and reduced breakage.

It's been the foundation of Cleartone's manufacturing philosophy since day one—and a key reason our strings continue to stand apart.

American-Made Strings Without Compromise

Every Cleartone product is proudly made in the USA using premium U.S.-sourced materials and manufactured entirely in-house by skilled technicians who understand exactly what players demand — because they are players themselves. We believe great tone starts with great strings, which is why every detail matters, from material selection to final inspection.

Crafted for Players Who Expect More

Today, Cleartone operates from our own facility in Utah, where we continue the same commitment to craftsmanship, innovation, and performance that started over two decades ago. Unlike run-of-the-mill mass-produced strings, Cleartone strings are built with precision, consistency, and a relentless focus on tone, feel, durability, and reliability for players who expect more from their gear.
